In connection with the pandemic, the “Every other day” working Schedule has been launched for the employees of ANAS.

This was stated by the first vice-president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli. According to him, if all employees of the academy come to work on the same day, it will be difficult to maintain the requirement of social distance: “Therefore, we have taken such a step that employees over 60 years old at ANAS to come to work on even days of the week, while the rest of the staff to come to work on single days. In this case, it will be possible to maintain social distance in the workplace. If necessary, the management can invite employees who come to work on single days to work on even days of a week.

I.Habibbayli said that the workers will work with the “Every other day” system until the end of the special quarantine regime, ie until June 15.

Institute of Biophysics proposes to discuss a number of priority areas during the special quarantine regime

The new form of coronavirus COVID-19 has spread, it can be said, around the world and has an impact on all spheres of life. The biggest difficulty in preventing this pandemic is not the high mortality rate from the virus. Conversely, the death rate from COVID-19 is much lower than from the coronavirus MERS-CoV, which had previously raged. The main difficulty is that this virus spreads very quickly, and therefore the number of infected people is much higher than the previous epidemics …

Current state of distance education at ANAS

In order to prevent the spread of a new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, from March 3, 2020, the educational process in all educational institutions, including the master’s degree of ANAS, has been suspended.

In accordance with the order of the President of ANAS academician Ramiz Mehdiyev “On the organization of distance (remote) education for master students of ANAS”, a new approach has been applied in the educational process. At present, the distance learning process in the master’s degree of ANAS is fully provided.

This was announced by the head of the Office of Science and Education of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Economics Fail Kazimov.

He said that currently 188 master students are studying at the master’s degree of ANAS. It covers a total of 84 specializations in 25 specialties. 217 professors and teachers are involved in the teaching process at ANAS, each of them successfully participates in the distance education process.

In the world practice, distance education is carried out using various methods and tools. At ANAS, mainly “synchronous” distance education is preferred. Because this is the most widely used learning method for continuing education. In this way, communication between teachers and master students is carried out in the form of online (live) teleconferences or webinars in virtual classrooms.

It was noted that the most used programs are Zoom, GoTomeeting, Vebex and Skype. These are modern communication applications that are an easy, reliable cloud platform for mobile devices, desktops, video and audio conferencing between smartphones, collaboration, discussions and webinars. Despite the high level of organization of education, it is not convenient to conduct a number of lessons at a distance. Thus, it is important to have appropriate laboratory conditions for the implementation of laboratory classes provided in the curriculum. If we take into account that the master’s degree of ANAS is of scientific master studies, from this point of view, high-level teaching of laboratory classes is of special importance for master students. Taking this into account, laboratory classes are planned to be held at the end of the academic year.

Considering the importance of scientific and pedagogical practice, second-year master students were involved in distance practice accompanied by internship supervisors, in addition to participating in online classes, they also passed at least 2 test lessons.

F. Kazimov said that one of the vital issues in the process of distance education is the implementation of quality control of lessons. The technical features of the programs used allow to control the lessons conducted remotely. Employees of the Office of Science and Education of the Presidium of ANAS and education departments of relevant institutes join the classes according to the established schedule and control the process, at the same time, actively participate in the organization of education.

“One of the main priorities of ANAS is to train highly qualified scientific personnel through doctoral and dissertation studies. It is known that the process of admission to doctoral and dissertation programs for 2019 under the Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science program has been completed. The dissertation topics of the doctoral students and dissertators who have successfully passed the competitions in the direction of topical problems in the relevant specialties have been submitted to the scientific councils of the departments, – said F. Kazimov.

Institute of Biophysics continues its scientific activities remotely

According to the decision of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated March 14, 2020 on the introduction of a social isolation regime in the country, all scientific research institutions of the republic temporarily suspended the experimental part of their activities. In connection with the above decision, the ANAS Institute of Biophysics team continues its scientific activities, observing the conditions of social isolation and the requirements of a special quarantine regime.

A certain part of the research work provided for in the Action Plan for 2020 was carried out by the scientific staff of the institution in January-March of the current year. Currently, based on the results of these studies, employees write articles, edit the collected materials. More than 5 papers are submitted for publication in such scientific collections as “Azerbaijan Chemical Journal”, “International Journal of Applied and Fundamental Research”, “Biomedicine”. Also, in the Laboratory of Integrative Biology, research has begun on the study of the genomes of various coronaviruses and the comparative analysis of their proteins.

Also the research work on 6 joint grant projects is ongoing in the scientific institution, 4 of which are international and 2 are republican. During the quarantine period scientists discuss, analyze and summarize the results of studies that were carried out as part of the projects before the introduction of a special quarantine regime (from January to March), based on these materials, scientific papers are being prepared for publication.

According to the results of the competition announced for 2020-2021 as part of a joint scientific cooperation program signed between ANAS and the Italian National Research Council (CNR), a joint project of the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS and the Institute of Macromolecular Research (Italy) “Modulator of functional aggregation amyloid: silk fibroin as a cheap model to study the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s” won a grant. A joint paper on this project has already been prepared for publication”.

Also, following the decree of the President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, the distance learning process for masters, which began on April 3, 2020, is successfully continued by the teaching staff of the institute.
