Scientific Council Meeting and Doctoral Student Attestation Held at the Institute of Biophysics

On May 30, 2025, the Scientific Council’s next meeting and the attestation of a doctoral student under the Doctor of Science program were held at the Institute of Biophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS, Oktay Gasimov.

At the beginning of the meeting, drafts of the “Regulations” governing the activities of various laboratories within the Institute of Biophysics were discussed. The scientific and organizational compliance of these regulations was reviewed, proposals were made to increase the efficiency of laboratory operations, and the documents were unanimously approved. Relevant decisions were made regarding their implementation.

Next on the agenda was the discussion of the Institute of Biophysics’ doctoral admission plan for 2025. Based on the letter from the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 12, 2025 (No. 3-29/2-1639/2025), the proposed plan was discussed in detail. A decision was also made to allow applicants for doctoral studies to proceed to the examination and competition stages in accordance with the plan.

On the same day, the attestation of part-time doctoral student under the Doctor of Science program, PhD in Biology, Assoc. Sevinc Jafarova, was held. The session was chaired by the Chairman of the Attestation Commission, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Karim Guli oglu Gasimov. He emphasized that the main goal of the attestation is to objectively evaluate the doctoral student’s scientific activities and achievements over the past year.

Associate Professor Sevinc Jafarova presented the directions of her scientific activity and the topic of her dissertation—“The Effect of Heavy Metal Salts on Intracellular Oxidoreductases and Transport ATPases.” She reported that in recent years, her research has focused on studying the impact of various concentrations of zinc salts on hypoxia-related enzyme systems, significant results have been achieved, and articles on the subject have been published in scientific journals.

Additionally, Sevinc Jafarova provided detailed information about her participation in national and international conferences, her publications in scientific journals, and her future research goals. She specifically emphasized that her studies represent scientific innovation and align with the main research directions of the Institute of Biophysics.

At the end of the session, the Attestation Commission, taking into account the submitted report and discussions, assessed Sevinc Jafarova’s 2025 attestation as satisfactory. The Scientific Council also reviewed other current issues on the agenda and adopted the relevant decisions.
