A commemorative event dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly massacre was held at the AR MSE Institute of Biophysics.
Initially, the participants of the event observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy and all our martyrs.
Oktay Gasimov, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, who participated in the event, noted that the Khojaly genocide occurred in February 1992, during which Armenian armed forces attacked the Khojaly region of Azerbaijan. Gasimov confirmed that as a result of this aggression, more than 613 people perished, and hundreds suffered. According to him, this horrific event should be considered as a crime against humanity and recognized as a historical genocide. Oktay Gasimov also expressed respect for the Azerbaijani journalist Chingiz Mustafayev, who played a significant role in introducing the Khojaly genocide to the world public, emphasizing his invaluable contributions to raising awareness of the issue on the world stage.
Then, during the event, Sevda Mahmudova, a young scientist and member of the Youth Council of the Institute of Biochemistry of Molecular and Cell Biology, spoke about the "Khojaly genocide." S. Mahmudova touched upon the topic with deep sorrow, highlighting that this horrific event is one of the darkest pages in Azerbaijani history, stating that it is unacceptable for the tragedy to remain as a wound in the conscience of humanity. She emphasized the necessity for the Khojaly genocide to be recognized by the entire world and for those responsible for this crime to be brought to justice. Mahmudova underscored the importance of not forgetting the tragedy and the need for greater efforts to prevent its recurrence by fostering solidarity within society and increasing awareness at the international level, acknowledging that we bear a great humanitarian responsibility.
At the end of the event, a video montage dedicated to the Khojaly massacre was shown.
