The Dean of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University, Professor Afet Mammadova, and the Head of the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Biology, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Rovshan Khalilov, were guests of the Biophysics Institute of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan. The General Director of the institute, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Oktay Gasimov, and the heads of the institute's laboratories provided the guests with detailed information about the scientific research being conducted, the joint international and national projects being implemented, and the important scientific achievements attained. During the meeting, the guests were acquainted with the functioning laboratories of the institute and informed about the scientific research being conducted in laboratories equipped with modern technology and equipment based on priority scientific directions. Special attention was given to the high-level working conditions created for scientists and the infrastructure aimed at improving the quality of scientific research. The guests highly appreciated these conditions, which serve to enhance the effectiveness of scientific activity, and praised the scientific potential of the institute.
Later, the guests held detailed discussions on various aspects of the scientific research programs being carried out at the institute. The scientists and researchers working in the laboratories provided detailed information about their work and discussed the presentation of the results to the international scientific community and their possible applications. The guests were deeply impressed by the innovative approaches, the use of scientific-technological equipment, and the applied significance of the research at the Biophysics Institute. It was also noted that the work being done at the institute would contribute to the development of science in the country and to research in the field of biophysics at a global level.
During the visit to the Biophysics Institute, issues related to COP 29 – the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties – were also discussed. The guests became familiar with the scientific research conducted by the Biophysics Institute in the field of global climate change, environmental pollution, and their impact on human health, as well as the international cooperation projects implemented in this area. Within the framework of COP 29, special attention was paid to the importance of biophysics in the fight against global climate change and environmental pollution, and to the institute’s contribution to research in this direction. It was emphasized that the research conducted in the laboratories is crucial for understanding the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and biological systems.
