Congratulations Karim Gasimov’s 60th jubilee!

Today the deputy director on scientific affairs of Institute of Biophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, head of the laboratory “Molecular and cellular biochemistry”, the doctor of biological sciences Karim Guli Gasimov is 60.

Karim Gasimov was born on November 30, 1958, in the village of Garajalar, Saatli district.  He received his first education in the secondary school of the village of Gyomushchi in 1979-1975. He continued his education at the faculty of biology of the Azerbaijan State University (present Baku State University) in 1976-1981. After graduating from high school, he started working at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

In 1982-1984 he was a researcher at the Institute of evolutionary morphology and animal ecology named after A. N. Severtsova in Moscow.

In 1984-1987, he continued his postgraduate study at the Institute of Biochemistry named after Bah, and in the defense council of the same institute majoring in biochemistry he defended his Ph.D. on the topic “The regulation of cAMP phosphodiesterase activity by red light and calmodulin in maize seedlings” on biological sciences, and in 2009, at the Institute of Botany of ANAS on the specialized scientific council defended doctoral thesis on the topic  “Molecular-Genetic characteristics of signal transduction in eukaryotes: G-proteins and jointless-1 transcription factor” in molecular biology and received the degree of doctor of biological sciences.

Karim Gasimov began his scientific activity in 1987-1992 at the Research Institute of Agriculture as a junior researcher and then worked as a senior researcher.

Since 1992, K. Gasimov worked as the chief researcher at the Department of Molecular Genetic Foundations of Productive Processes of the Institute of Botany of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, in 1997-1999 he became a leading researcher, and in 2010 K. Gasimov was appointed head of the laboratory of the regulatory system cells of the same institution.

He won a long-term grand of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Sciences in 1996–1997 and conducted a study on the role of secondary messengers, such as cyclic guanosine monophosphate and cyclic adenosine monophosphate, in the transfer of photo-signals in plant photophoresis at Kobe University in Japan.

Later K. Gasimov, in 2000-2006, was invited to the University of Iowa, USA. Under the NIH and NSF grants, he conducted comprehensive studies on the role of G proteins in the transmission of biological signals and the role of transcription factors in the transmission of intranuclear signals.

The scientist also engaged in pedagogical activity besides scientific activity. He has taught in the biology faculty of Baku State University in 2011-2015 and Lankaran State University in 2014-2016, actively participated in the training of young cadres.

We sincerely congratulate Karim Gasimov on his 60th jubilee, wish him good health and great success in his scientific work!
