On January 17, at the Institute of Biophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, an event dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held.
The event was opened by the director of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor Oktay Gasimov, who spoke about the political essence of the day.
Then, martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the independence of motherland and territorial integrity have been commemorated for a minute of silence.
Speaking at the commemoration event Deputy Director for Innovation and Transfer, Ph.D. in Medical Sciences Azad Abdurahimov shared his memories about the tragedy and the struggles for the independence of Azerbaijan.
А.Abdurakhimov noted that on that bloody night, 146 people were killed by the invading Soviet army, and over 800 were injured. However, the tragedy that occurred in January 1990 could not break the will of the Azerbaijani people and their struggle for national liberation.
Finally, the slide reflecting January 20 tragedy has been demonstrated.
