On January 17, at the Institute of Biophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, an event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy was held.
At the event, martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the independence of motherland and territorial integrity have been commemorated for a minute of silence.
Opening the event, director of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor Oktay Gasimov made speech on heroism of killed martyrs for sake of national independence and freedom on January 20 and stated that, this tragedy engraved forever to our history.
Then, Deputy Director for Innovation and Transfer, Ph.D. in Medical Sciences Azad Abdurahimov gave detailed information about the bloody events in Baku on January 20, 1990. He talked about the socio-political processes that took place 30 years ago and touched upon the root causes of the tragedy. A. Abdurahimov noted that, national leader Heydar Aliyev came to the Azerbaijani Delegation in Moscow on January 21, 1990 and strongly condemned the crime and made a statement.
In conclusion, the importance of delivering the truth about the January 20 tragedy to future generations was emphasized.
