Scientific results of the Institute of Biophysics were discussed

A meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS dedicated to the results of the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the scientific institution in 2020 was held.

Opening the event, director of the Institute, Chairman of the Scientific Council, Corresponding Member of ANAS Oktay Gasimov noted that the decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decisions of the Cabinet of Ministers and Presidium of ANAS, orders of the President of ANAS were taken into account in the scientific and scientific-organizational activities of the institution this year.

According to the scientist, this year the employees of the institute carried out 5 research works on 2 topics in the direction of “Physical and chemical bases of biological systems”, and 2 of  them have been completed.  The results are reflected  in 1 monograph, 7 theses, 11 articles.  4 of these articles were published in foreign scientific journals.  There are 172 references to the publications of the Institute’s employees. He said that this year the Institute conducted research on 6 grant projects.

In addition, extensive information was provided on the results of research work carried out at the institute in 2020, the scientific significance of the work done within the framework of the measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic, and the main scientific achievements. It was noted that as a result of the research carried out, the possibility of characterizing hydrophobic clusters of protein layers using an ANS fluorescent probe was shown.  Using the example of the fibroin protein, it was found that there are two phases in the layers, differing from each other in the degree of hydrophobicity, and they are characterized by the lifetime of ANS fluorescence.

Then Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of Biophysics, Doctor of Biological Sciences  Karim Gasimov, noted that the results of research conducted in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic were accepted for publication in the scientific research journal “Life Sciences and biomedicine”.

In conclusion, it was decided to present the important results obtained at the Institute to the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences.
