Today marks the 60th anniversary of Karim Guli oglu Gasimov, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs at the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS, Head of the "Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry" Laboratory, and Doctor of Biological Sciences.

Karim Gasimov was born on November 30, 1958, in the village of Garajalar, Saatli district. He received his primary education at Gumushchu village secondary school from 1965 to 1975. From 1976 to 1981, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Biology at Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University). After successfully graduating, he was assigned to work at the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

From 1982 to 1984, he underwent scientific training at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Evolutionary Morphology and Animal Ecology in Moscow.

From 1984 to 1987, he continued his studies at the Bach Institute of Biochemistry, where he defended his PhD dissertation in Biochemistry on the topic "Regulation of 3',5'-cAMP Phosphodiesterase Activity in Corn Seedlings Under Red Light and Calmodulin Influence."

In 2009, at the Institute of Botany of ANAS, he defended his Doctor of Biological Sciences dissertation in Molecular Biology on the topic "Molecular-Genetic Features of Signal Transmission in Eukaryotes: G-Proteins and the Jointless-1 Transcription Factor."

Between 1987 and 1992, Karim Gasimov began his scientific career as a junior researcher, later becoming a senior researcher at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture.

Since 1992, he worked as a senior researcher in the Department of Molecular-Genetic Bases of Productivity Processes at the Institute of Botany of ANAS, later serving as a leading researcher between 1997 and 1999. In 2010, he was appointed Head of the "Regulatory Systems of the Cell" Laboratory at the same institute.

In 1996-1997, after winning a long-term grant from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), he conducted research at Kobe University in Japan, studying the role of second messengers such as cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in photomorphogenesis signal transmission in plants.

Later, Karim Gasimov was invited to Iowa State University (USA), where he worked from 2000 to 2006 under NIH and NSF grants, researching the role of G-proteins in biological signal transmission and later the role of transcription factors in intranuclear signal transmission.

In addition to his scientific career, he has been actively involved in teaching. From 2011 to 2015, he lectured at the Faculty of Biology of Baku State University, and from 2014 to 2016, he taught at Lankaran State University, significantly contributing to the training of young specialists.

We sincerely congratulate Karim Gasimov on his 60th anniversary and wish him good health and great success in his scientific endeavors!
