The annual report for the year 2022 was heard at the Institute of Biophysics

A meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Biophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan was held, dedicated to the annual report of the scientific institution.

The meeting was attended by Corresponding Members of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Ramiz Aliquliyev, Salimə Mehdiyeva, Məsumə Məmmədova, Chief Specialist of the Department of Scientific, Technical and Innovative Activities of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Rəna Qasımova, the Institute's leadership, members of the Scientific Council, and employees of the relevant laboratories and departments.

The meeting was opened by the Director of the Institute of Biophysics, Corresponding Member of ANAS Oktay Gasanov, who welcomed the participants and gave the floor to the Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Kerim Gasanov, to present the report.

In his report, K. Gasanov provided detailed information about the work done at the Institute in 2022, in connection with the implementation of the decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decisions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as state programs.

He reported that in 2022, the Institute conducted 1 problem-based, 2 thematic, and 5 research projects in the field of "Physical and Chemical Foundations of Biological Systems". In the current year, 12 articles were published, 8 of which were published abroad, 18 abstracts, 10 of which were published abroad, and 2 scientific-popular publications. Five of the articles were published in international journals indexed in the "Web of Science" and "Scopus" databases with high impact factors. The publications of the Institute’s scientists were cited 281 times. Furthermore, successful collaborations continued with colleagues from Turkey, the USA, Italy, Pakistan, Switzerland, Belarus, and France, and international research was conducted.

The speaker also highlighted important results from joint research with scientists from Turkey, the National Oncology Center, and Baku State University, which formed the basis for research on the anticancer effects of the Glu-Gln-Arg-Pro-Arg pentapeptide using in-silico docking. These results were published in the journal "Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics" with an impact factor of 5.235.

Further achievements from collaborative research with specialists from Montpellier University (France) were also discussed, with the results published in the journal "Biomolecules" with an impact factor of 6.064.

The speaker also spoke about the training of qualified personnel, promoting science among schoolchildren, involving talented youth in science, participation in conferences, the Institute's researchers winning national and international grants, and their scientific-popular activities in the media.

After the report was heard, it was discussed. The Institute’s activities in the current year were highly praised by the invited experts, Corresponding Members of ANAS Ramiz Aliquliyev, Salimə Mehdiyeva, Məsumə Məmmədova, PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Rəna Qasımova. It was emphasized that, despite being the youngest scientific institution in the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences, the activities of the Institute's staff in the reporting year were successful, and important work was done in solving oncology and neurodegenerative diseases.

In the end, an open vote was held, and the annual report was unanimously approved by the members of the Scientific Council.
