A researcher from the Institute of Biophysics participated in the 8th International Conference titled "MTP-2023 (Modern Trends in Physics)

On November 30 and December 1, Arzu Aydemirova, a scientific researcher from the Laboratory of Biomolecular Structure, Dynamics, and Function at the Institute of Biophysics under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Azerbaijan Republic, participated in the 8th International Conference "MTP-2023 (Modern Trends in Physics)" held at Baku State University.

Arzu Aydemirova presented a thesis titled "Temperature-induced Phase Transitions of Lipids Extracted from Human Lung Carcinoma and Normal Cells" and related findings during the sessions organized in the Biophysics section on December 1.

The presentation discussed the application of FTIR spectroscopy to investigate the structural characteristics of lipids extracted from human lung carcinoma and normal cells. It was noted that during the temperature-induced phase transitions, especially at frequencies around 2850 cm^-1 for CH2 symmetric stretching and approximately 2923 cm^-1 for CH2 asymmetric stretching, distinct peaks were observed. Both peak positions were found to be sensitive to the transition parameters of the lipid chains. For ordered and disordered systems, CH2 symmetric stretching occurred at frequencies of 2849 cm^-1 and 2854.5 cm^-1, respectively. Similarly, CH2 asymmetric stretching for ordered and disordered acyl chains occurred at frequencies of 2917 cm^-1 and 2927.0 cm^-1, respectively.

The phase transitions induced by temperature took place in the temperature interval of 20°C to 44°C. Increasing the temperature led to the transition of all lipid samples from ordered to disordered structures. The presentation generated significant interest and was extensively discussed. At the end, Arzu Aydemirova was honored with a certificate in recognition of her participation and presentation.
