The annual report of the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences was presented

On December 11 and 13, 2019, the General Assemblies of the Division of Physical-Mathematical and Technical Sciences (FRTE) of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NAS) were held. During these assemblies, reports on the scientific and organizational activities of the institutes within the division for the current year were presented.

The Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Physics Institute of NAS, Academician Cavad Abdinov, presented the 2019 annual report of the institute, stating that 11 research projects were recognized as significant outcomes by the Scientific Council of the institute. These findings primarily represent scientific innovations researched in recent years and experimentally validated this year. He emphasized that these innovations provide new opportunities for both fundamental and applied research, contributing significantly to the discovery of new quantum phases and the search for new physics.

Abdinov also highlighted that 39 research projects were carried out at the Physics Institute this year. The results were published in 1 book, 2 monographs, and 422 articles, 278 of which appeared in prestigious international journals, including 201 in Web of Science-indexed journals. The publications have been cited 6450 times.

Abdinov noted that, for the first time in the history of NAS, an article by the institute's researchers was published in the renowned journal Nature with an impact factor of over 40. This research was conducted under a project led by Academician Nazim Məmmədov, supported by the "Science Development Fund" of the President of Azerbaijan. In total, 17 grant-funded projects were carried out at the institute this year.

Next, the Director of the Tusi Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, Academician Namig Jalilov, presented the annual report of the observatory. He mentioned that 21 research projects were conducted at the observatory, with the results being reflected in 2 books, 1 monograph, and 36 articles. Among these, 20 articles were published in prestigious scientific journals, and 14 in Web of Science-indexed journals.

The Director of the Radiation Problems Institute, Academician Oktay Samadov, presented the report for his institute, stating that 25 research projects were carried out this year, with results published in 3 books, 2 monographs, and 153 articles, including 98 in reputable international journals and 61 in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals. A total of 1192 citations of the publications were recorded, with 18 research projects funded by grants.

The Director of the Biofizika Institute, Academician Oktay Qasimov, presented the report for his institute, stating that 5 research projects resulted in articles published in Web of Science-indexed journals, with a total of 152 citations.

The Director of the Mathematics and Mechanics Institute, Academician Misir Mərdanov, reported on 104 research projects conducted during the year, with results published in 5 books, 1 monograph, and 181 articles, 139 of which were published in high-impact international journals, including 99 in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals. The publications were cited 1600 times, with 7 grant-funded projects carried out.

The Director of the Institute of Management Systems, Academician Telman Əliyev, presented the report for his institute, stating that 39 research projects were conducted, with results published in 4 books and 218 articles. Of these, 146 articles were published in reputable scientific journals, including 79 in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals, and the publications received 1362 citations. In total, 12 research projects were funded by grants.

The Director of the Institute of Information Technologies, Academician Rasim Əliquliyev, presented the report, stating that 67 research projects were conducted this year. The results were published in 7 books, 1 monograph, and 89 articles. 50 of these articles were published in high-ranking scientific journals, and 25 were published in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals. The publications have been cited 1205 times. Three grant-funded research projects were conducted.

Afterwards, Academician Fikrət Əliyev presented the annual report for the Applied Mathematics Scientific-Research Institute of Baku State University.

Academics who made significant scientific contributions presented their achievements during the meeting.

The reports were followed by extensive discussions. After the discussions, the reports from the institutes within the division were approved.
