An Event Dedicated to the Integration of Science and Education Held

An event titled “Integration of Science and Education in Secondary Schools, Participation of Students in Domestic and International Projects” was held at School-Lyceum No. 20 named after A. Huseynzade, organized by the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory (SAO).

According to the Biophysics.az website, citing Science.gov.az, the event was attended by the administration and teaching staff of School-Lyceum No. 20, as well as representatives of the N. Tusi Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory, Biophysics Institute, H. Aliyev Institute of Geography, N. Ganjavi Institute of Literature, and the I. Nasimi Institute of Linguistics under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

The initiative aimed to promote science among schoolchildren, encourage them to engage in scientific activities, and organize joint efforts to prepare them for participation in various local and international projects.

The event was opened by Esmira Aghayeva, the director of School-Lyceum No. 20, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the significance of such events in fostering the scientific development of students. She noted that the integration of science and education is a direct requirement of the modern era. Highlighting the achievements of specially trained students in various projects and competitions within the framework of the collaboration between SAO and School-Lyceum No. 20, E. Aghayeva stated that establishing similar partnerships across all fields of fundamental science would contribute to scientific progress.

Following the opening ceremony, the scientific session began with scientific-popular presentations. During the session, presentations were made by:

  • Dr. Hamayil Adigozalzade, Associate Professor and Astronomer at SAO,
  • Aynura Hasanova, Chairperson of the SAO Young Scientists and Specialists Council (YSSC),
  • Samira Rahimli, Deputy Chairperson of YSSC,
  • Dr. Shefa Aliyeva, Deputy Chairperson of the ANAS Young Scientists and Specialists Council at the Institute of Literature,
  • Dr. Matanat Bakhishova, Chairperson of the YSSC at the Biophysics Institute,
  • Dr. Samira Abushova, Deputy Chairperson of the YSSC at the Geography Institute,
  • Dr. Gunel Orucova, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the YSSC at the Institute of Linguistics.

The presentations covered topics such as “International and Local Grant Projects in Secondary Schools,” “International Experience and Knowledge Exchange Opportunities for Educators,” “Priority Research Areas in Astronomy for Schoolchildren,” “Education and Literature,” “Differences Between Healthy and Cancer Cell Membranes,” “Relief’s Influence on Land Use in Karabakh,” and “Processes Observed in World Languages.”

At the end of the event, which was met with great interest, several groups of schoolchildren were formed based on their interests as part of the “Scientist of the Future” project.
