On March 5, 2019, the next seminar was held at the Institute of Biophysics of ANAS.

The seminar was opened by Professor Oktay Gasimov, Director of the Institute of Biophysics, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, who spoke about the importance of the topic and the necessity of conducting modern research in this field, and then the floor was given to Professor Tokay Huseynov, Head of the Ecological Biophysics Laboratory, PhD in Biological Sciences. In his speech, the professor provided information about the young researcher and the studies carried out in this area.

Then, Zarifa Osmanli, Junior Researcher at the Ecological Biophysics laboratory of the Institute of Biophysics, presented a talk on the topic: "Molecular-bioinformatic analysis of the prion gene in buffalo populations (Anatolian, Murrah), molecular study of selenoproteins, and their role in cancer diseases."

The speaker first provided information about her research on prion diseases, and then discussed the bioinformatic analysis of the ORF region of the PRNP gene, which codes for the prion protein, using bioinformatic methods, the calculation of post-translational modifications of the PrP protein, and the comparative analysis with the PRNP gene of cows.

The young researcher also discussed the potential applications of bioinformatic methods in the laboratory's ongoing work, addressing aspects such as the co-translational incorporation of 21st and 22nd amino acids into proteins, the molecular study of selenoproteins, and the current state of their research in the context of cancer diseases.

At the end of the presentation, a discussion was held on the topic, and questions were answered.
