Students Conducting Research with the Biophysics Institute Won a Gold Medal at the "Sabahın alimləri" Competition!

From March 12-14, the final stage of the XIV Republican Project Competition "Sabahın Alimləri" took place. The goal of the competition is to identify talented students with research and creative potential, develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, time management, public speaking, and communication, expand connections between higher education institutions and research institutes with general education institutions, and ensure communication among students with similar interests. As part of the competition, student research projects were evaluated in 9 categories (mathematics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, biology, medicine and health, ecology and natural resource management, engineering, computer science, robotics, and artificial intelligence). The closing ceremony was attended by prof. Oktay Gasimov, Director of the Institute of Biophysics, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan who presented medals and certificates to the winners.

Among the participants were 10th-grade students from the Bilasuvar Complex Preschool-School-Lyceum named after Mubariz Ibragimov, Leyla Alizade and Guluzade Gülay, who under the guidance of Sevinj Jafarova, a scientist at the "Biophysics of Physicochemical Stress Factors" Laboratory of the Institute of Biophysics, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Assoc. Professor, conducted research, prepared, and presented a project on the topic "Study of the Effect of Metformin, Sulfonylureas, and the Medicinal Plant Galega Officinalis on the Development of Oxidative Processes in Erythrocytes in the Context of Insulin Resistance" in the field of "Medicine and Health." It is very pleasant that the project presented by these students took first place in the "Medicine and Health" category and was awarded a gold medal! We express our deep gratitude to the head of the "Biophysics of Physicochemical Stress Factors" Laboratory of the Institute of Biophysics, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Assoc. Professor Sevinj Jafarova, and wish success to all our youth who are on the path of science and knowledge!

It should be noted that two of the four teams that won gold medals in the "Sabahın Alimləri" competition will have the opportunity to participate in the international competition "Regeneron ISEF" (International Science and Engineering Fair), which will take place in the USA.
