A public awareness seminar was organized at the Institute of Biophysics within the framework of the “Human Rights Month” approved by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) and in connection with the declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event was opened by PhD in Medical Sciences Azad Abdurahimov, who spoke about the purpose and significance of the “Human Rights Month.” He emphasized that human rights are a universal value and that every individual must know both their rights and duties, which is essential for the healthy and peaceful development of society.

During the seminar, Arzu Aydamirova, a scientific researcher from the Laboratory of Structure, Dynamics, and Function of Biomolecules at the Institute of Biophysics, gave a comprehensive presentation on the topic “Human Rights: History, Concept, and Contemporary Approaches.” She explained the essence of the concept of human rights, its historical roots, and modern legal foundations. Aydamirova noted that human rights are not merely a legal concept but also resonate with principles expressed throughout centuries in various religions and cultures as a human value.

In her speech, Arzu Aydamirova highlighted that, based on the principle of the inalienable and equal protection of rights, every person is born free and entitled to rights. Among these, the right to life, personal integrity, a fair trial, freedom of thought and conscience, freedom of assembly, the right to education, and property rights hold a special place.

The seminar also addressed the importance of protecting copyright in the field of science. Aydamirova emphasized that encouraging scientific creativity, recognition of research, and protection of authors’ rights are crucial for the sustainable development of science. She pointed out that copyright is protected in various aspects, including personal, property, and exclusive rights, and that violations of these rights lead to legal liability in accordance with the law.

At the end of the event, informational materials on human rights were distributed to participants, and questions were answered. The seminar was met with great interest by attendees, and extensive discussions were held in the context of the relevance of human rights to everyday life.
