The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Biophysics was held

The next meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Biophysics under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held.

The meeting was chaired by the acting member of ANAS, Oktay Gasimov, who is also the head of the institute. During the meeting, the report on the scientific exam of the director of the Cell Signaling Transmission Laboratory of the Institute, Ph.D. Taleh Yusifov, from November 24, 2023, to March 19, 2024, at the University of California (Los Angeles, USA) was presented and discussed.

Ph.D. Taleh Yusifov reported that he was invited as a visiting professor at the University of California (UCLA) and conducted research in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine during his examination period. He mentioned that he participated in a research project on the structure-function relationship of ion channels as part of his professorship.

He also highlighted that during this period, he presented his research work and findings at several scientific seminars:

December 20, 2023: "Voltage-dependent modulation mechanism of the BK channel: Cytochrome-C model" (Molecular Medicine Department);

December 27, 2023: "Carbon monoxide (CO) modulation mechanism of the BK channel" (Molecular Medicine Department);

February 27, 2024: "Oxygen sensing mechanism mediated by the human BK channel" (Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine).

After summarizing his experimental data, Ph.D. Taleh Yusifov stated that he had prepared a scientific article entitled "The human BK channel is a high-affinity Cation “Gating ring” sensor" for publication.

Subsequently, discussions were held on the possibilities of joint research collaboration and joint grant projects between the two institutes based on a letter from Professor Rikkardo Olsisin of the Molecular Medicine Department of the University of California.

Finally, a decision was made to partially change the composition of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Biophysics of the MSE AR. According to the decision, Ph.D. Taleh Yusifov and Ph.D. Hamayil Adigozelzadeh were included in the Scientific Council.

Various current issues were then discussed at the end of the meeting.
