This event was dedicated to honoring the precious memory of our heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland. The official opening of the event was made by the Institute’s Director-General, corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Professor Oktay Qasimov, who began by greeting the participants and reflecting on the significance of this special day. He prayed for God's mercy on the brave martyrs who fought heroically for the liberation of Azerbaijan’s occupied lands, contributing to our nation’s historic victory, and sacrificing their lives in the process. Oktay Qasimov emphasized that every martyr who gave their life for the homeland will live eternally in the memory of our people, and their heroism will always be remembered with great pride.
He then invited all participants to honor the spirits of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this sacred cause with a minute of silence. The event, which began with a moment of silence, continued with speeches reflecting on the struggle of the martyrs, the unity and solidarity of our people, and highlighting the role of each citizen who contributed selflessly to the victory. During the event, the heroism of veterans of the Patriotic War, our wounded soldiers, and the families of martyrs was extensively discussed, and their sacrifice was given special respect.
Next, a member of the Institute's Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, a junior researcher at the Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Laboratory, Fidan Qudratova, gave a detailed presentation. In her speech, she talked about the unprecedented unity demonstrated by our people during the 44-day Patriotic War. Fidan Qudratova noted that all segments of society united around a common goal during those difficult days, showing their readiness to fight for the homeland. She specifically touched on the heroism and sacrifice demonstrated by our brave soldiers during the war, emphasizing that their courage and patriotism were inscribed in golden letters in the glorious pages of our history.
The speaker highly valued the heroism of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and the liberation of our lands from enemy occupation, and she stated that the cherished memory of each of them is sacred for our people. She remarked that the love and fighting spirit of our martyrs serve as a true example for future generations, and she prayed for God's mercy on all of them. Fidan Qudratova also underlined that the war opened a new era in the history of the Azerbaijani people, and that this victory was not only a military triumph but also a symbol of national spirit and unity.
Finally, Professor Oktay Qasimov gave a concluding speech, once again emphasizing the immense importance of Azerbaijan’s historic victory for our nation. He noted that the heroism of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland will never be forgotten, and their memory will always be honored with respect. Prof. O. Qasimov stressed that this victory, achieved thanks to the strong unity of Azerbaijan’s army and its people, also played a key role in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
In his speech, Oktay Qasimov also touched on the importance of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He considered it a positive step that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had expressed readiness to sign a peace agreement in line with Azerbaijan’s demands and to make changes to Armenia’s constitution to facilitate this. Professor O. Qasimov added that such diplomatic efforts will contribute to the establishment of lasting peace and development in the region and that the historical achievements won by the Azerbaijani people in the spirit of victory will lay the foundation for long-term stability in the region.
