An international scientific seminar on lung cancer was held at the Institute of Biophysics
An international scientific seminar on "The Role of miRNAs in the Invasion and Metastasis of NSCLC" was held at the Institute of Biophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan.
The seminar was attended by scientists and specialists from the Azerbaijan Medical University, the National Oncology Center, Baku State University, and the Institute of Genetic Resources.
Opening the seminar, the Director of the Institute, Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Oktay Gasanov welcomed Professor Hakan Akca from Pamukkale University (Turkey) and the seminar participants, emphasizing the importance of such educational events in the field of oncology and noting the benefits of scientific seminars conducted within the framework of international cooperation for Azerbaijani scientists and young specialists.
Professor Hakan Akca then gave a presentation, sharing the results of his research on lung cancer conducted over the years with Azerbaijani colleagues. The seminar discussed the molecular mechanisms regulating the invasion and metastasis of miRNAs, whose expression is directly regulated by NFkB, and the results of scientific research supported by the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBİTAK) over the past 8 years and published scientific papers.
After the presentation, the Director of the Institute of Biophysics, Corresponding Member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Oktay Gasanov, Executive Director, Doctor of Biological Sciences Kerim Gasanov, Vice-Rector for International Relations of Azerbaijan Medical University, Associate Professor Orkhan Isayev, Head of the Laboratory at the National Oncology Center, Doctor of Biological Sciences Leylaxanım Məlikova, and others expressed their questions and opinions on the topic.
In conclusion, Professor Oktay Gasanov thanked Professor Hakan Akca for the interesting and informative presentation on behalf of the participants and the Institute’s leadership. The parties emphasized the need to further develop trilateral cooperation in the field of oncology between the Institute of Biophysics, the National Oncology Center, and Pamukkale University, conduct joint research, and carry out training in this field.
