Scientific Success of Bilasuvar Schoolchildren: Meeting and Appreciation Ceremony at the Institute of Biophysics
A meeting was held at the Institute of Biophysics of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the students who won gold medals in the “Scientists of Tomorrow” Republican Competition. The event was attended by the Director-General of the Institute of Biophysics, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Oktay Gasimov, several staff members of the institute, as well as the Executive Director of the Bilasuvar Kindergarten-School-Lyceum Education Complex named after National Hero Mubariz Ibrahimov, Mr. Akshin Baghirov, and the winning 10th-grade students – Leyla Alizade and Gulay Guluzade.
Opening the event, Professor Oktay Gasimov welcomed the guests and stated:
“Such achievements are extremely encouraging for the future of Azerbaijani science. Representing the education complex named after National Hero Mubariz Ibrahimov and winning first place is both a great responsibility and a matter of pride. You have already taken the first step by testing yourselves in a scientific environment. This is just the beginning – the continuation depends on you. The key is to always move forward, be curious about science, and choose your direction wisely. It is truly commendable to achieve such success at a young age. Wherever you go, never forget that you are Azerbaijani. The phrase ‘Science has no homeland, but a scientist does’ carries a deep meaning in this context.”
The Head of the “Biophysics of Physicochemical Stress Factors” laboratory, PhD in Biology, Assoc. Sevinc Jafarova, also congratulated the students and shared her thoughts:
“It is very gratifying to see our students participating in and succeeding at international-level projects. Through such work, they begin to understand the essence of research and acquire skills in scientific analysis and methodology. Being part of this achievement is a source of great pride for me as well.”
Also speaking at the event, PhD in Medical Sciences, Azad Ramiz oghlu Abdurahimov emphasized:
“You have already earned the right to participate in an international competition – that in itself is a major accomplishment. The very mention of Azerbaijan in such a prestigious event is already a victory. I am proud of you. I believe this is just your first achievement, and in the future, you will reach even greater heights. I congratulate your parents and your teachers.”
Akshin Baghirov, Executive Director of the Bilasuvar Kindergarten-School-Lyceum Education Complex, expressed his gratitude in his speech:
“Your life and scientific experience are so rich that it’s natural for our students to want to meet with you. When I first came to the Institute of Biophysics, I was met with great warmth. Most importantly, you were willing to support us. The scientific environment created here, the knowledge and sincerity of the staff, and their practical approach to work serve as an example. I would like to express special thanks to Ms. Sevinc – she made an immense contribution both in managing her laboratory and in the realization of this project. Your demanding approach and attention sparked a deeper interest in scientific research among our students, which is extremely valuable.”
It should be noted that the two teams awarded gold medals at the “Scientists of Tomorrow” Republican Competition have qualified to represent Azerbaijan at the prestigious “Regeneron ISEF” (International Science and Engineering Fair) in the United States. Among them are Leyla Alizade and Gulay Guluzade, 10th-grade students of the Bilasuvar Kindergarten-School-Lyceum Complex named after Mubariz Ibrahimov. They conducted research at the Institute of Biophysics under the supervision of PhD in Biology, Assoc. Sevinc Jafarova, and presented a project entitled “Investigation of the Effects of Metformin, Sulfonylurea, and Galega Officinalis on the Development of Oxidative Processes in Erythrocytes under Insulin Resistance.” Their project was awarded first place in the Medicine and Health category, earning them gold medals.
At the end of the meeting, Executive Director Akshin Baghirov presented official letters of appreciation to Professor Oktay Gasimov, Director-General of the Institute of Biophysics, and to Associate Professor Sevinc Jafarova, Head of the “Biophysics of Physicochemical Stress Factors” laboratory, for their support and valuable contributions.
