Republican scientific and practical conference "Digital Medicine 4.0: Problems, Opportunities and Prospects" was held

The Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education hosted the 2nd National Scientific-Practical Conference titled “Digital Medicine 4.0: Challenges, Opportunities, and Perspectives,” organized with the participation of the Ministry of Health, the Health Committee of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly), the National Oncology Center, Azerbaijan Medical University, Azerbaijan Technical University, the Institute of Biophysics, and other institutions. The event was attended by heads of state agencies, scientists and specialists from research institutions and higher education institutions, and representatives of the media.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss the collection and processing of medical data generated in Azerbaijan in the context of digital transformation, the development of information systems based on artificial intelligence technologies, and the advancement of healthcare infrastructure in light of Industry 4.0 challenges.

In his opening remarks, Vice-President of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences) and Director of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, Academician Rasim Aliguliyev, emphasized the significance of the conference. He noted the relevance of research in digital healthcare and the important role of ongoing projects in the country in this context.

Deputy Minister of Health, Assoc. Nadir Zeynalov, stated that digital solutions offer vast opportunities in medicine, support decision-making processes, and that the collected medical data would become a valuable resource as “Big Data” for future generations.

ANAS Vice-President, Academician Irada Huseynova, highlighted the importance of integrating digital technologies with bioinformatics, genomics, and molecular engineering. She emphasized the relevance of creating systems for collecting patient data.

At the conference, Adviser to the Minister of Health Rufat HajiAlibeyov, Professors Nazim Gasimov, Nazim Panahov, Nurali Yusifbeyli, and other scholars delivered presentations on the development of digital medicine, its application in education and science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity issues.

Director of the Institute of Biophysics and Corresponding Member of ANAS, Oktay Gasimov, shared his views on the application of digital technologies in the biomedical field, the importance of a multidisciplinary approach, and the training of highly qualified personnel.

The conference continued with sessions titled “Scientific-Theoretical Issues of the Formation of Digital Medicine” and “Scientific-Practical Challenges of Applying Digital Technologies in Medicine.”

At the event, the chairs and secretaries of the section meetings titled “Scientific-Theoretical Problems of the Formation of Digital Medicine” and “Scientific-Practical Problems of the Application of Digital Technologies in Medicine” stated that the conference, where nearly 60 presentations were heard, was of great importance in terms of broad exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experience, and in presenting new opportunities for solving existing problems in the field of digital medicine.

At the closing ceremony, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Director of the Institute of Information Technology of the Ministry of Science and Education, academician Rasim Aliguliyev, expressed his views on the presentations at the section meetings, which covered topics such as the cyber-resilience of medical cyber-physical systems, the architecture of medical network infrastructure, bibliometric analysis of medical sciences, the use of artificial intelligence technologies in medical diagnostics, the formation of a digital medical terminological system, and more. The academician highly appreciated the reports dedicated to the current scientific problems of digital medicine and expressed confidence that the conference would contribute to solving the scientific-theoretical and practical problems of digital medicine.

Academician R. Aliguliyev emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with institutions working in this direction in the future, supporting the training of highly qualified personnel, and holding various types of meetings to discuss digital medicine problems, which he believes will bring great benefits.
