The Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan organized the preliminary discussion of the dissertation work of Arzu Aydemirova, a PhD candidate at the Institute of Biophysics, at the Institute of Physics. The event was attended by scientists and experts from the Institute of Biophysics and the Institute of Physics, who discussed the relevance and significance of the research.

During the discussion, Arzu Aydemirova presented the main objectives of her dissertation and the results obtained. She noted that the dissertation is dedicated to the study of silk fibroin as a protein model on various nano-structured metal surfaces and the analysis of blood samples using SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy). The research involves the classification of blood plasma samples from healthy individuals and lung cancer patients using artificial intelligence, based on their infrared (FTIR) spectra.

It is emphasized that most cancers are diagnosed at late stages, leading to an increase in mortality rates. This necessitates the development of cheap, fast, and minimally invasive methods for early diagnosis. The proposed method facilitates the early detection of the disease and increases the chances of treatment.

The research also highlighted changes in the cell-lipid composition in cancer patients, which can also be observed in lipid components of blood plasma. Results from FTIR spectra obtained from lipid fractions will be used to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and enable more effective classification.

The participants of the event highly appreciated the results of the research, recognizing the scientific innovations of the dissertation and its future application potential.
